Those who fail an attempt at GWR completion can schedule a free 30-minute consultation with a WPE-trained graduate tutor to review the essay and better understand its strengths and weaknesses.
Prepare for the Writing Proficiency Exam
The Center offers examples of passing and failing essays for students to read and review prior to taking the WPE. Students can also examine sample questions, practice writing WPE essays, and receive feedback on their exam attempts prior to the test date. Click here for additional WPE preparatory resources.
Earn credit for your work in the Center
Both English 103 and English 150 are 1-unit courses designed to provide weekly writing support to all students on campus. ENGL 103 is specifically for students in GE Area A1, while ENGL 150 offers support to students in writing-intensive courses beyond GE Area A1 as well as those working on senior projects and/or GWR completion.

A free service for Cal Poly students, faculty and staff, the center offers a unique space for individuals across disciplines to join together and engage in strategies for communicating effectively in a variety of contexts for a variety of audiences.
Work one-to-one on any project for any course
Undergraduate and graduate students, professionally trained in both a 300-level course on one-to-one conferencing and subsequent workshops on writing and rhetoric in the disciplines, are prepared to help students improve their skills at any stage in the process, whether they need help getting started or polishing a final draft.
